Revenge of the Christmas Eve

Up to now, we have pretty much stayed home Christmas eve and had a German style Christmas then gone to my Mum's Christmas day for an English style Christmas and then headed to Pauline for boxing day. This year we decided to stay home on Christmas day but go to Pauline's on Christmas eve then to Mum's on boxing day. So the night before we got everything ready just to be popped into the car in the morning. Come morning we switched on the TV to check the weather/traffic only to hear they were expecting 12 million on the roads today so dreading the journey we stepped it up a gear and got at the door at, what is for us, a fairly good time (9.50). It rained overnight leaving a thick sheet of ice on the road so poor John had to take the stuff out to the car, then the dog, then Nathan, then me... To help us through the traffic hell we stopped off to grab some lattes for the journey. Anyway to our surprise, the roads were moving quite well, we didn't even queue at the tunnel. I think Pauline went into shock to see us so early!

We sat and chatted while Nate cuddled everyone, stripped the Christmas tree and played Tina's keyboard

Very soon sat down to a beautiful lunch then ( goulash followed by some yummy chocolate pubs) unfortunately Nate, having not had his morning nap, started to get grumpy so went down for a nap, while we popped our feet up for a bit. John nipped out to the chemist and to get a paper. Nathan then chose this moment to do the poo of poos and wake up. So as Nate was up (and, after a short wait to see if John would be back soon, clean) it was obvious it was time to attend to the true meaning of Christmas - PRESENTS!!!!!

Then peggy, Jo, Claire and Barry popped round and Pauline tried to feed us some more!

We then popped round to see Liz and Tom - we always say we are going to but never get round to it but we really should do because they are such a lovely pair but to add to the appeal the adorable Macy was there. Nathan was quite besotted with her but unfortunately we couldn't stay long as Thai had been left at Johns Mum's. We popped back but didn't stay too long as Nate was very quickly tired out so off we popped. BUT we didn't get far... On the way to Tom and Liz's, a a warning light came on but it was orange (apparently that is merely a warning, red is an urgent warning) so John decided to ignore it until we got home . But fairly quickly John noticed that the instrument panel was dimmer, the lights were dimmer etc so we limped to Clackets Lane service station. "Lets get you and the boy in the warm" John heroically declared... Unfortunately, we soon realised it was shut, as was the inn (hmm sounds familiar) luckily the petrol station was still open so John braved the rude wind's wild lament and the bitter weather in order to get us a hot chocolate and coffee (and have a poo but not in the same cup). As we had the baby with us the AA guy on the phone said we were on priority. Said boy wasn't happy and cried his heart out til his Daddy lulled him to sleep when, of course, the first, really lovely, AA man turned up so woke him up. He sat on my lap and watched the AA man like a good boy for a while but the AA man couldn't get it going and couldn't tow us home so then went to war on our behalf to get us upgraded to relay (which they would do normally but because it was busy they didn't want to do). He finally won and got a tow truck to come out and get us.

The next AA man however was a grumpy git. Almost missed us and then loaded the car on the truck but poor Thai had to stay in the boot. He barely spoke a word until we got home and we warned him about the ice in our road. He then decided to dump the car covering someones drive. It was around 1am by now so we just got Nate inside and then left a message for Santa to let him know we were home now and could he please pop back when he had a minute. We then had a cup of tea and waited...
